 ABOUT HOME ECONOMICS

The Home Economics track is one of the K-12 tracks that grants students the skills and knowledge necessary for livelihood projects at home. The Technical Vocational Livelihood or TVL Track is one of the tracks offered under Senior High School programs in the Philippines. It is designed to provide students with job-ready skills that they will need in the future.Technical-Vocational-Livelihood track deals primarily with technical-vocational skills or tech-voc. These skills are requirements for the Certificate of Competency (COC) and National Certifications (NC) that you will need especially if you are looking for a career in electronics, agriculture, or trading.Home Economics also trains students with livelihood skills they can use for employment or in starting their own businesses. Whether your plan is to be a fashion designer, chef, or be an entrepreneur, Home Economics strand will teach you the essential knowledge you need to succeed in these careers! You will encounter interesting topics like beauty and wellness, cooking, fashion designing, tourism, hospitality, and handicrafts.Choosing to take subjects in the Home Economics track can also lead you to National certifications that are recognized by TESDA, which means you can start working right after senior high school. From here, the course teaches you various skills, including barbering, bartending, beauty and pastry production, fashion design, hairdressing and tourism promotion.
The best thing about Home Economics is that you will have a lot of options after senior high and upon getting your National Certificates or NC. NCs are the certifications you will receive when you pass the skills assessment of TESDA. Aside from this, you can also go to college or even apply for a job right away.

Home Economics it is the study that deals with the economics and management of the home and community. Home economics is a field of formal study including such topics as consumer education, institutional management, interior design, home furnishing, cleaning, handicrafts, sewing, clothing and textiles, cooking, nutrition, food preservation, hygiene, child development, and family relationships. It prepares students for homemaking or professional careers.
Home economics taught advanced classes in nutrition and hygiene because students who are enrolled in this strand may apply as a restaurant chef, a pastry chef, bartender, cake designer, or any work that is connected on cooking and serving others. Home economics also teach about hygiene, not only self hygiene that should be natural for all of us, but a hygiene that could help us to be presentable and ready on our future life and career. It’s real life knowledge and skills that can benefit anyone, because it can be a modern teaching of life skills like in our own home. For example, how to cook, how to serve properly, having a balance and nutritious food and also how to handle economic skills.

Students who choose the Home Economics Strand can either choose to work right after senior high school or take the following courses for college:

  3. BS Food Technology
  4. BS in Hospitality and Restaurant Management
  5. BS Interior Designing
  6. BS Nutrition
  7. BS in Tourism Management

There are plenty of career options with this track! After finishing the Home Economics program in senior high school, you are given the following options right after graduation, or even right after college:
